From Symbolic Presence to Real Power: 3-Day Conference Gathers Scholars and Practitioners to Rethink Gender, Peace, and Security: Resistance and Resilience
In December 2025, scholars and practitioners gathered at the British Institute in Eastern Africa (BIEA) in Nairobi to rethink gender, peace, and security at a time of radical international change. Organized by Jana Krauseand Louise Olssonand funded by the ResilienceBuildingproject at the University of Oslo (UiO), the conference provided space for participants to discuss research findings on how to move beyond the symbolic participation of women in peacebuilding and how to ensure that peace processes better consider women’s security and resource needs during reconstruction.
Resilience Interventions in Northeastern Nigeria: Insights from a Research Workshop with NGO Staff in Maiduguri
Resilience-building programs in conflict affected Northeastern Nigeria are examined through a workshop with NGO and UN staff in Maiduguri, where their practical workings and community impacts are discussed. Insights from 22 practitioners from Borno and neighboring states are used to explore how the concept of resilience is interpreted, implemented, and experienced on the ground.
